Lubelski Węgiel
Lubelski Węgiel Bogdanka S.A.

In June 2014, as announced, the LW Bogdanka mine joined the ranks of organisations that publish social reports.

The presented report is the first social report published by LW Bogdanka and has been prepared in accordance with guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). As recommended by GRI for first-time reporting organisations, it has been prepared ‘in accordance’ with GRI G4 in ‘core’ option. The report also takes into account indicators specific for the mining sector, described in a relevant sector supplement to the GRI Guidelines. It is, however, worth noting here that LW Bogdanka, being aware how important are non-financial issues, has for years disclosed to the public information about the impacts of its activity on the social and natural environment in its annual reports and directors’ reports on activity. Nevertheless, it was not reporting ‘in accordance’ with the GRI Guidelines.

Our CSR Report provides a summary of the first two years of implementing the social responsibility strategy for 2012-2015, i.e. years 2012 and 2013. However, as it is the first report, i.e. the opening report, it includes reference to events from the past which are considered to be of key significance for the present picture of the LW Bogdanka Group.

Reliability of the report and its compliance with the Guidelines was supervised by a third party expert (Abadon Consulting), who also supported its preparation. The report was also subjected to external verification by one of the stakeholders – Foundation for the AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków, i.e. a credible and reputable institution which is an unchallenged expert in mining.

The current report covers the entire capital group as it is consolidated in the financial statements. So it includes the parent, i.e. LW Bogdanka S.A., its subsidiary Łęczyńska Energetyka and two companies which were separated from the parent in 2013. As that last organisational change did not affect significantly the overall social and environmental impacts of the Group, both entities which appeared in the financial statements for the first time have been described in this document briefly. In accordance with the Guidelines, key areas of social and environmental impacts of both companies have been described, while social and environmental issues deemed to be of little significance, have been omitted.
