New R&D project which supports managment and operational decisions

LW BOGDANKA S.A. has begun a cooperation with ABB on launching an innovative project, which makes use of advanced data analysis. The complex digital solution is aimed at improving the efficiency of mining by ensuring greater reliability of mining machines. The project is set out to finish in February 2020.
 

The cooperation between LW Bogdanka and ABB will involve developing an Industrial Internet of Things platform (IIoT), which will connect the various systems comprising the ABB Ability™ digital portfolio, equipment and services. As a result, a tool for improving decision-making processes, predictive maintenance, and effective use of resources, as well as coordination of operations in real time will be created.

The intention of the R&D project is to increase the possibility of predicting malfunctions, solving machine and equipment problems, and shortening the duration of equipment stoppages, thus reducing costs. It is of particular significance in the context of improving mining efficiency.

LW BOGDANKA S.A. remains one of the most modern hard coal mines in Poland also due to gradual implementation of state-of-the-art initiatives as part of the Smart Solutions Mine programme. Working on the use of advanced data analysis in decision-making support systems marks yet another step towards perfecting operational processes in our Company and facilitating our miners’ work. We continue to value innovations which remain a relevant part of Bogdanka’s strategy - said Artur Wasil, President of the Management Board of LW Bogdanka SA.

Maintenance of mining equipment is a dynamic process as both the production conditions and the conditions in which mining machines operate are ever changing and require constant evaluative analysis. An efficient predictive maintenance programme should allow early discovery of anomalies. This, in turn, will be of aid in planning machine and equipment repairs to be conducted at the most convenient time, both in terms of finances and production – added Anna Wujec, ABB Digitalization Manager.
