Corporate Social Responsibility Strategy for 2014 ÷ 2017

  • The first Corporate Social Responsibility Strategy of LW BOGDANKA S.A., for 2012 – 2015, was formulated as soon as in 2012. It was conceived thanks to commitment of representatives of the Management Board and top management of LW BOGDANKA S.A. It was preceded by a CSR Analysis, prepared by the Sustainable Growth and Corporate Responsibility Team from PwC. The first CSR strategy, elaborated jointly, presented key CSR challenges faced by the mining sector globally, while taking the Polish specific context and conditions into account.
     
  • In the second half of 2013, the prevailing then corporate social responsibility strategy, which had been adopted for the period 2012-2015, was put under review. The aim of the review was not only to assess to what degree the assumed objectives had been achieved, but first of all to assess whether such objectives were adequate and up-to-date in the context of challenges facing the enterprise. After several months of review a new CSR strategy, defining objectives and direction of measures for 2014-2017, was adopted. It defines social responsibility priorities which, according to the management, not only reflect more precisely the key areas of social and environmental impact, but are more than before transparent and understandable for the surrounding. Easy perception makes the strategy reliable in internal and external communication.

The updated approach to social responsibility management may be defined in a nutshell as:

 

Safety of workforce, protection of local community and natural environment. Sustainable and foreseeable development and growth in value of the company

 

The strategy itself is based on the continued following of priorities, for which quantifiable objectives have been defined. In brief, the priorities of the new CSR strategy for 2014-2017 are as follow:

To strive to increase the safety of workforce

1.1. To eliminate fatal accidents
1.2. To decrease the frequency rate of accidents
1.3. To decrease the number of accidents among subcontractors’ employees
1.4. To eliminate the number of occupational diseases
1.5. To eliminate non-compliance with the prevailing occupational health and safety procedures

To guarantee the safety of local natural environment

2.1. To protect local biodiversity and reclaim transformed areas
2.2. To increase environmental and operating efficiency of mining activity

To ensure safety and support development of local community

3.1. To counter-measure the social effects of mining damage
3.2. To take measures benefiting local community
3.3. To support education and development in the mining sector

Transparent and responsible management practices

4.1. To extend responsibility onto the supply chain
4.2. To make management ethics a part of the Company’s organisational culture
4.3. To prevent corruption and bribery
4.4. To create the culture of openness and dialogue at workplace
4.5. High quality management of relations with the surrounding environment and corporate social responsibility
