To date, our Company has already been awarded six times in this competition, which aims to highlight extraction achievements and economic results of the mining industry. We owe the present trophy to our efficiency in coal extraction.

The annual ranking of the School of Underground Mining and the State Mining Authority is the most important event in the extraction industry countrywide. Previous editions of the competition favoured entities which achieved best economic ratios. In this year’s edition, the lowest cost of face mining, with consideration being given to the scale of difficulty connected with geological and mining conditions and mine-dependent costs, was taken into account.

LW Bogdanka S.A. proved to be an unchallenged leader. The Company’s mining capacity is nearly 3 times higher than that of the whole industry. In comparison with the remaining mining companies, it also impresses with financial results.

“Naturally, I am happy with the verdict of the competition jury, which this year evaluated Polish mines in accordance with new criteria. The 2009 Mine of the Year statuette awarded to Bogdanka shows the industry’s appreciation of our staff and the management team of the Company. It is also an assessment of the methods of extracting deposits, where extraction costs in specific geological and mining conditions are the main parameter. Let me only add that discipline in that respect leads to good economic results”, said Waldemar Bernaciak, Vice-President of the Management Board of LW Bogdanka S.A., after the Thursday gala.

For years, LW Bogdanka S.A. has been the most profitable and effective hard coal mine in the country.
